FIFA World Cup Day 8: preview
The Germans were the most impressive team in the opening round of games. They destroyed an Australian team that experts said could pull off some surprises. Germany comes into the game tommorow against Serbia wanting a win which would probably clinch first place for the Germans. The Germans shouldn't have much problems with Serbia if Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mesut Ozil dominate such as they did against Australia. Joachim Loew will be expecting no less than a win from his German side.
Serbia had a disapponting performance in its first game. Serbia's game against Ghana was full of mistakes when Alex Lukovic was sent off when he hauled down a Ghana midfielder. Nemanja Vidic is going to have to lead Serbia's defense and play a shut down game especially with the German attack clicking the way it did against Australia. Serbia did not put themselves in a good position with a loss to Ghana, because now they have to probably get at least a point or they could end their tournament tommorow.
Slovenia enters its game against the USA with an advantage as it will be fine with a tie. Slovenia got lucky against Algeria to win when Robert Korren's shot was missed by the Algerian goalkeeper. Slovenia will have to have a solid midfield game as they did against Algeria, when Algeria didn't really get a chance. The Slovenians could clinch a spot in the next round with a win so they will be looking for a win as they have England coming up in their last game.
The Americans are greatful to Robert Green for the point they got against England. USA did not deserve a point but played very solid defensively against England. Landon Donovan will have to lead the American attack as he is known for. If he does the USA may come away with a very valuable 3 points.
Lots of the British media have been pressuring Fabio Capello to replace Robert Green with David James after the mistake the West Ham Goalie made that cost England 3 points. If Capello believes that Robert Green is his best goalie then there is no reason that Green should be replaced as he shouldn't make another huge mistake. The return of Gareth Barry will also help England as he will help hold the ball up for England and let Stephen Gerrard and Frank Lampard attack more without having to worry about tracking back. England should not have much problems with Algeria, but as we have learned in this World Cup nothing is automatic.
The only hope for Algeria is another catastrophe in England's backline. But seriously the Algerians showed no attacking power in their game against Slovenia, so the main strategy for Algeria may be defend with their lives. The Algerians will need Fawzi Chouachi to be mistake free or Algeria will have no chance. And maybe they will be able to capitalize on another Robert Green-like mistake to get a result.
