The World Cup and the real world

As absorbed as I am in the action on the field, significant things are taking place off the field. The Stewards in at least 4 stadiums went on strike and were subsequently fired. This disrupted entry into games and now the Stewards jobs are being done by the police.

North Korea is engaged in a war of words with South Korea and its allies over the alledged North Korean sinking of a South Korean ship. With both nuclear armed North Korea and South Korea in the World Cup,  this provides an uncomfortable background to the soccer celebration.
