On 1 Nov 2011 the Vision-NPA axis sold out 3 acres of single-family East Vancouver to 3 tall towers and 1114 condo units. The two COPE councillors voted against. Not even one of those many units is for affordable housing. Here is an example of what Robertson means by "leveraging" City land! Megaprofits for developers. (That large assembled parcel includes City land.) Guess who packaged that deal? Bob Ransford! He owes Robertson and Vision big-time now and is starting to pay back.
Boddy advocates "a mix of low-income and wealthy people in every part of the city." This follows straight after a big wad of rumination about "design problems in the Downtown Eastside."
Can Boddy elaborate on his road to "mix"? Specifically, will he confirm that his solution starts with pull of poorer residents into places like Kitsilano, Dunbar, Shaughnessy, etc? And offer reassurance that only after all those other areas have achieved their balance will he consider the push of injecting richer folk into the one neighborhood that he seems to want to talk about?
If this is not the program, then by "mix" Boddy really means – let's push the Downtown Eastside folk right out of Vancouver. In other words, let's commit gentricide to achieve homogeneity.
Candide in Canada indeed! To clear the palate, could we have a carefully selected word from an inspired Terry? Who else but Terry Southern, author of Candy (1958). (Let's cook with Cunégonde.)
Politics starts at home. Right on with listening to your kids. Dig deeper, look further, find out what BAM is up to in the rest of the world. Rip the Canadian veneer right off that media-shy corporation. Let's have more stories like this one!
"When the mayor used the 'F-word' during the conversation, he was expressing his frustration that West End Neighbours members were opposing the plan." – No. Wrong. Forget that vocabulary. Forget the frustration excuse. Robertson, Deal, and Stevenson were showing their contempt toward people who had waited hours for a brief democratic opportunity to speak to power.
Anonymous Mr. Boring says: "No one was evicted from their home because of the Olympics." His assertion is demonstrably "ludicrous and false." For documentation see Lora Grindlay, “Evicted tenants blame Olympics greed,” Province (8 Dec 2009) and Bob Mackin, “Eviction sparks complaints of Olympic proportions,” 24 Hours Vancouver (8 Dec 2009) 3 -- among others. Extrapolate from this detail to suspect the quality of the rest of his comment. Thank you, Myriam Dumont.
Where is "Columbia"? Do both you and your proofreader need to get out of an Anglo mindset?

"I don't feel conflicted." – John Furlong
This comment displays the foundation in reason that will produce such a reliable review of the riot.
I hate to be the first one to tell you, but there already is an inquiry into the riots taking place
You tell wrong. Not inquiry, but "review." Look into the difference.

One more reason I love Vancouver a lot less than I used to.
