Does the zombie apocalypse mean the end of morality? How many zombies can you fit on a rooftop? 'The Walking Dead' asks the big questions.

'The Walking Dead' S04E01: '30 Days Without an Accident' recap

Welcome back to the zombie apocalypse, and an American wasteland where nobody remembers how to ask follow-up questions. This is the recap and review for “The Walking Dead” S04E01, titled “30 Days Without an Accident”. Anyone else get the impression that the counter is about to get flipped back to zero?

When S03 ended, former sheriff’s deputy (and Hootsuite CEO)  Rick Grimes led the former residents of Woodbury back to the prison, thus stocking the survivors' camp with a fresh supply of red shirts. Meanwhile, the Governor is still running around out there somewhere.

Major spoiler alert by the way. Okay, let's go.

All bad things come to an end: This is the 'Breaking Bad' series finale.

Breaking Bad S05E16: 'Felina'

Welcome back, meth heads, for the "Breaking Bad" series finale. Here you'll find the recap and review for "Breaking Bad" S0516, titled "Felina". My digital cable listing says, "The acclaimed crime drama comes to a close in the series finale." That's what happens in series finales, no? Also, this acknowledges that "Breaking Bad" is now a crime drama, and no longer a comedy-drama.

Walter White is on a cross-country ass-kick road-trip. Skyler is trying to keep her family together. Walt Jr. freakin' hates his dad. Jesse Pinkman is still Todd's meth-lab cook-monkey, though he's surely seething for revenge. Lydia is... well, I dunno where she is, but she's probably nervous.

Come on, you know I'm right.

'Chemistry is the study of transformation': Preparing for the 'Breaking Bad' series finale

"Felina": The "Breaking Bad" finale

Okay, meth heads, only a few days before the "Breaking Bad" series finale. September 29 is already circled on your calender, I trust. Let's dig into the preview, then get into some life-or-death predictions.

But first, I'll be attending One Last Cook, featuring Vince Gilligan at the Vancouver International Film Festival on September 27. If you see me, say hello. Okay, "Breaking Bad" series finale preview time. Some S05E15 spoilers ahead, but no finale spoilers. Just speculation.

"Lost" Showrunner Damon Lindelof with "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan: VIFF Film and Television Forum

'Breaking Bad' in Vancouver

"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan visited Vancouver as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival's Film and Television Forum, and he brought some Blue Sky meth and a few barrels of cash with him. VIFF presented One Last Cook, in which Vince Gilligan presented his favorite episode of "Breaking Bad", followed by a Q&A moderated by "Lost" showrunner Damon Lindelof.

The stage was adorned with barrels from Gus Fring's megalab, along with stacks of cash, bags of Blue Sky, and a now-iconic yellow hazmat suit. Everyone wanted selfies in front of those barrels.

"Granite State": Breaking Bad S05E15 recap and review served up neat.

Breaking Bad S05E15: ‘Granite State’

Welcome back, meth heads! Here you’ll find the recap and review for “Breaking Bad” S05E15, titled “Granite State”. My digital cable listing describes S05E15 thus: “Events sent in motion long ago move toward a conclusion.” Uh, thanks.

Anyway, after what was arguably the best episode of “Breaking Bad” so far, Walter White has abandoned his family, either ruthlessly or selflessly. Or maybe it was a bit of both. Jesse Pinkman is now Todd’s indentured meth-cook lab monkey.  Hank and Gomez, well, they’re dead. Now Schraderbräu will never hit supermarket shelves.

Yasuko Thanh, Fred Wah, David Chariady, and Glen Deer: Mixed Voices Raised at Hapa-Palooza 2013

Kindred spirits

I attended Hapa-Palooza's Mixed Voices Raised literary event on Wednesday evening, MCed by Glen Deer. I got to hear some spectacular readings from Canadian Poet Laureate Fred Wah, short-story master Yasuko Thanh, and novelist David Chariandy.

I think writing about small moments in fiction is much more difficult than writing big set-pieces, so Mixed Voices Raised was right up my alley.

Breaking Bad S05E15: 'Ozymandias'. Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction, too.

'Breaking Bad' S05E14: 'Ozymandias' recap and review

Welcome back, meth heads! Here you'll find the recap and review for "Breaking Bad" S05E14, titled "Ozymandias". My digital cable listing summarizes it thus: "Everyone copes with radically changed circumstances." Uh, thanks. When we last left Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, they were not exactly having an A1 day. They're caught in the middle of a gunfight, but there's a silver lining: it's a gunfight between the worst marksmen in New Mexico.

Breaking Bad S05E13– "To'hajiilee" recap and review: Another fine mess...

'Breaking Bad' S05E13: 'To'hajilee'

Welcome back, meth heads! Here you'll find the recap and review for "Breaking Bad" S05E13, titled "To'hajiilee". which is the name of a Native American reservation west of Albuquerque. More to the point for “Breaking Bad” fans, it’s where Walter White and Jesse Pinkman did their first meth cook in that crappy RV, and where Walt has buried those barrels of cash.

One of the biggest oh-shit moments in “Breaking Bad” happened at the very end of S05E12, where Walter finally decides to have Jesse killed.

Around him looms the larger change: Walt is no longer in control.

Anybody got a quarter? 'Breaking Bad' S05E12, 'Rabid Dog', mixes two volatile elements.

Breaking Bad S05E12 recap: 'Rabid Dog'

Welcome back, meth heads. Here you will find the recap and review for "Breaking Bad" S05E12, titled "Rabid Dog". Jesse is going all "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on Rancho Depresso, and Walter White has shown off his acting chops in an epic frame-job confession video.

Suddenly Marie's whole shoplifting subplot in S01 doesn't seem so bad, right?

Will the Jesse-Walt showdown come as quickly as the Walt-Hank confrontation? Who's the rabid dog, Jesse or Walt? Only one way to find out... oh, and major spoiler alert.

Okay, let's cook.

My neighbor Heisenberg (Breaking Bad S05E12: 'Rabid Dog' preview)

Preparing for 'Breaking Bad' S05E12

Okay, so it's not Walter White Day. Through over a year's worth of horrible decisions, Heisenberg is now facing a trash compactor of hostility, and Jesse Pinkman is the dianoga. You know, the dianoga? That monster in the trash compactor? "Star Wars"? Fine, okay, moving right along.

So now Devolved Matt Damon and the Meth Nazis, somewhat-unenthusiastically backed by Lydia, are moving into ABQ, emboldened by their easy defeat of Declan's crew. That was kind of a gimme, though, really, since Declan's crew was basically bullshit; even though they were cooking on the Knight Bus.
