Peaches, Canadian electronic artist

This weekend our top event picks celebrates women in electronic arts for International Women's Day at Utopia Festival, a film premier and an "unconference" to help create a greener Vancouver. The local event scene is jam-packed in the coming weeks too, so pull out your calendar and plan to attend a few with a couple friends.

Our fave picks

1) Utopia Festival
March 5 | Workshops 10 AM | Unconference 2 PM | Showcase 8 PM | W2 Storyeum | $15 - $45
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, the Utopia Festival will empower women in the electronic arts with radical, hands-on education through lectures, discussion groups and workshops during this all-day program. Utopia Festival was conceived as an intervention into the male-dominated electronic music scene in Vancouver and digital culture worldwide. Mid-day, Utopia will storm Commercial Drive with female-focused music for the Mobile Dance Party. This is a free, inclusive event. Bring noise-makers, costumes, smiles and your best moves. The celebration will culminates at 8 PM in an exciting musical showcase featuring the largest line-up of women in electronic music in Western Canada with net proceeds supporting the W2 Inner-City Girls' Creative Tech Summer Camp. Musical performances by First Nations artists Tanya Tagaq, JB The First Lady and the biggest lineup of female electronic artists ever to hit a Canadian stage – including Peaches, Isis Salam (Thunderheist), Betti Forde, B-Traits, and more.

2) Greenest City Camp
March 5 | 8:30-4:30 | Wosk Centre | $25 (includes tasty vegetarian lunch)
Remember summer camp? Crafts and projects and meeting lots of new people? Well, Saturday, March 5th is Greenest City Camp, a full-day of learning, connecting and finding allies and collaborators to make Vancouver the Greenest City in the world by 2020. It's about coming away with the tools and connections you need to make change happen. Honey Bee Steve has been helping the City put on the event and it's sure to be lots of fun and a great way to take your green projects to the next level.
