VANOC Names Eight Honorary Mayors for Olympic and Paralympic Villages at 2010 Winter Games
Today VANOC named eight individuals who will be honourary mayors as volunteers of the athlete villages during the Vancouver Games. They will meet the athletes in their temporary homes in February and March, support them during this time and accompany them to social functions. These individuals have been selected based on their sports background, community involvement, and commitment to the 2010 Games.

Canada's Female Curling Favourite Suffers Again at the National Olympic Trials
Jones fell to 0-2 on Day 2 of Canada's Olympic curling trials, as Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay, Ont., handed Jennifer Jones her second loss. Olympic bronze medallist Shannon Kleibrink, meanwhile, picked up her first win, moving to 1-1 with a win over 2007 world champion Kelly Scott.

The Olympic Flame Will Likely Face Protests on its Way Back
So far the torch has been welcomed wherever it went, but the RCMP are getting ready for some protests. The first one is expected to occur on Tuesday, when the torch is supposed to pass through the First Nations community of Kahnawake, Quebec. The residents of this community will be likely to protest the RCMP escort as they regard the police forces as foreign. The decision has to be made about who is to escort the torch from now on - RCMP or the Vancouver Police force.

Canada Sets World Record at Speed Skating Pursuit
Christine Nesbitt, Kristina Groves and Brittany Schussler skated the fastest women's team pursuit ever, a performance that put an exclamation mark on the national team's eight-medal performance during their home World Cup.
