Black Rock Resort Storm Watching Contest Fall 2012

Eat a guilt-free Grand Slam for a good cause

Tuck into a hearty breakfast for a good cause. On October 15th, 100 per cent of proceeds from every Grand Slam sold at Denny’s on Broadway and Hemlock will be donated to the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.

The Orphan’s Fund supports children with special needs by funding for therapies, special equipment and bursaries. The Fund also gives financial aid to organizations such as the YMCA, Crisis Centre, Muscular Dystrophy Canada and many others.

The fundraiser raised $15,000 last year and Denny’s has already sold 5,000 Grand Slams.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it on the 15th, you can still contribute. For every Grand Slam sold at any Denny's in the Lower Mainland and Victoria before October 15, $1 will go towards the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.

For more information, check out the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.

Michael Morris and Attila Richard Lukacs Panel Discussion Moderated by Scott Watson

The Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver is pleased to present a panel discussion with Attila Lukacs and Michael Morris on November 25th at 8pm in the Emily Carr lecture theatre (Rm 301).  Admission is free for all.
For more information please contact info@casv.ca

As soon as Attila Richard Lukacs graduated from the Emily Carr College of Art, he was featured in the landmark 1985 Vancouver Art Gallery show called "Young Romantics", curated by Scott Watson. Around this time, Watson introduced Michael Morris to Lukacs, who expressed interest in moving to Berlin. Lukacs did, by 1986, and the two developed a bond based on friendship and mentorship, as Morris would take Lukacs to museums and introduce him to the work of the old masters.

Canucks week in review

Tyler Wilde

After winning eight of nine games, the Canucks came into last week feeling confident about their game.  Little did they know a 4-3 overtime loss in Buffalo would start a now four game losing streak which has seen the team play some of its worst hockey of the season to date.

Although the Canucks went into Buffalo riding two wins in a row, the signs of the current slump were visible.  The team dug themselves early holes in both Ottawa and Toronto, giving early leads in both games before battling back to win.  The same proved true in Buffalo, as the Canucks fell behind 2-0 and 3-1 before finally clawing back to tie the game.  The Canucks bad habits finally caught up with them when Dan Hamhuis coughed up the puck in the slot and Tyler Myers won the game for the Sabres in overtime.

Winter weather advice from City Hall

Press Release

Winter is upon us and the City is preparing to fight the cold when the first snow falls on Vancouver.

With lessons learned from the big snow two years ago, the City has made strategic improvements to its snow management plan this year. The addition of new equipment and a plan that emphasises snow removal along priority routes will help to keep the city moving.

But the City needs your help. Everyone is asked to do their part to help keep Vancouver streets clear during snowy or icy weather.

Before the snow starts to fall, be prepared:
