Bill Nye to receive SFU honorary degree
Last week, Simon Fraser University announced the list of distinguished individuals to receive honorary degrees later this year.
Popular scientist, educator and television performer “Bill Nye, the Science Guy,” is one of those set to receive the honour from the institution in October.
CEO of The Planetary Society, Bill Nye was also previously recognized with the "Humanist of the Year Award" from the American Humanist Association in 2010.
Bill Nye obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, where he studied mechanical engineering, but has received several honorary degrees from various institutions including Johns Hopkins University, Willamette University and Lehigh University.
Other recipients to receive this honor from SFU include: Meeru Dhalwala and Vikram Vij, the team behind three award-winning Metro Vancouver restaurants; Maggie Ip, founding chair of multicultural social service agency S.U.C.C.E.S.S; Oscar-nominated screenwriter, director and producer Deepa Mehta; and award-winning poet Lorna Crozier.
