The Life Game Vancouver-With Guest Magician Lon Mandrake

VANCOUVER, BC: Truth Be Told Theatre Company, in association with Monster Creative Productions and Granville Island Cultural Society present The Life Game Vancouver-with guest Magician, Lon Mandrake. See improvisation as you’ve never seen it before. Surprisingly touching, honest and mature; The Life Game shows us a side of improv, and ourselves, that you may not expect. The Life Game Ensemble includes accomplished Improv artists such as Brian Anderson, Jeff Gladstone, Ryan Gladstone, Tom Jones, David Milchard, Riel Hahn, Lori Triolo, Christina Sicoli and Tallulah Winkelman.

The Life Game is a show that reminds us all, however ordinary, that we all have an extraordinary life story to tell. Each night a different guest is interviewed on stage about their life. May’s guest will be magician Lon Mandrake. The show takes the bare bones of Lon’s life story and then transforms that information, then and there, into a magical piece of improvised theatre using renowned improvisation artist Keith Johnstone’s Life Game technique. Everyone has a story to tell…and in The Life Game those stories can be told.

About Lon Mandrake: Award-winning magician, Lon Mandrake was born and travelled with a large, travelling magic show, which travelled to carnivals, fairs, resorts, and night clubs. During this time he learned to do magic and balloon making.  He received a degree in Biology and Education at UBC and became president of the B.C. Science Teachers' Association and Professional Development.  Lon studied psychology and was mentored by some of the world’s top magicians, contributing to his skill as a magician and mentalist. Although recently retired, he also spent time as a magician and mentalist- performing for Universities, Science Centers and Corporate Functions.

What a fascinating evening at the theatre(…)Ultimately, the discovery at the end of the evening is this: we’re all in the same boat, we just paddle it differently.(…) I wouldn’t miss it.”- Jo Ledingham, Vancouver Courier

“The name of the game, in The Life Game is intimacy(…)Some memories are insignificant but touching, others grand and raucous… while others may leave a tear in your eye.”  Greg Ewan, reviewvancouver

“Unlike the more manic and gag-filled Theatresports, The Life Game aims for a fuller range of emotions.”  Guy MacPherson, The Georgia Straight.

The atmosphere at The Life Game is very casual and inviting. Audience members are encouraged to come early and stay after the show for an informal reception with the guest of honour, the Life Game ensemble and the members of the Granville Island Cultural Society.
