Local School Offers Contest to Nonprofits in need of Film Content
This semester, in conjunction with the launch of the freshly interactive and graphically captivating website pullfocusfilms.com, Pull Focus Film School is launching their first community stories contest. Local nonprofits are invited to enter stories about their cause, projects or community/social change issues for a chance to win one of three filming projects with this semester’s students.
Pull Focus Film School is an independent, non-profit school in Vancouver dedicated to social change. The school offers documentary filmmaking courses that teaches students to develop story ideas for compelling, authentic, thought-provoking documentary films The goal is to empower students to tell stories about issues they care about, while giving back to organizations with media content they can use.
The grand prize for the 2012 Community Stories Contest is a free film and the two runner-ups will receive a film for $250 honouriam.
Three of the best stories will be selected and each organization will receive a professional quality two-three minute film for the web. The winners will also be profiled with a link, logo and the organization’s film on the Pull Focus Community Partners page.
The easy-to-use website profiles top student films, numerous community projects and partners, fundraising films, upcoming courses and workshops, and much more.
“We’re a grassroots organization, committed to affecting change in our neighbourhoods, and demanding excellence in film from our students” says Program Director, Steve Rosenberg.
From its first days, Rosenberg has found word of mouth and good partnerships to be the most effective way to spread the word about the school.
He hopes this contest and interactive Facebook “like” prompts on the new website can help raise awareness about the many worthwhile causes already profiled on pullfocusfilms.com and provide some amazing stories for his current students to tell through film.
The Community Story Contest guidelines are available online and the deadline for submission is 5pm on Friday, February 10, 2012.
