Cooper's Hawk Spotted Downtown: Photo

After spotting this hawk on a wire in the alleyway between Pender and Hastings Street yesterday, I asked my bird-loving friend to determine just what kind of hawk it was.  Crows, natty pigeons and the occasional seagull are the only winged species to frequent these wires, but he confirmed it was a Cooper's hawk (http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/coopers_hawk/id).

"A very cool and small raptor to watch hunt.  They are fast and agile in the forest, chasing down little songbirds, and maybe this one is eyeing up birds hanging around feeders in your neighbourhood. This one is a young bird, probably born this spring, and so you can't really tell from here if it is a he or a she."

Keep your eye out for this rare bird in downtown Vancouver - maybe he is on the hunt for #Occupy trouble-makers!
