Accidental drunk tweet sent from American Red Cross Twitter account
If you follow @RedCross, you too might have been stunned to see the above Tweet (unappropriate for an organization invested in humanitarian services) appear on its Twitter account just a few days ago.
"The culprit of the odd tweet was simply someone who had access to the Red Cross Twitter account and made a mistake using HootSuite,” reported Geekosystem. She was not fired for #gettingslizzard.
And instead of crumbling in embarassment, @RedCross entertained the idea and "managed to turn this digital faux pas into donations." Dogfish Head Brewery was mentioned in the accidental tweet and, as a thank you for the promotion (seen by over 270, 000 followers), encouraged donations.
According to Beernews.org, it " resulted in a slight uptick in donations and interest in giving blood. The Red Cross blogged about how the tweet helped the organization."
Red cross charmed its way out of the situation by later tweeting: “We’ve deleted the rogue tweet, but, rest assured, the Red Cross is sober, and we’ve confiscated the keys.”
