Help Nepali girls get educated on the trek of a lifetime to Nepal with Kina

Experience trekking through the Himalayan mountains when the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, when the days are warm and the evenings are cool. Enjoy  the chance to visit with local families in their homes. Spend a night in a remote Buddhist monastery.  Experience all of this and more as you help young women in Nepal get an education they would never manage to acheive without your help.

Join the Vancouver-based Kina organization for their annual trek April 25 – May 11, 2011. Take a trip that will not only change your life, but will help change the lives of local girls as well. As you enjoy trekking through Nepal, you will also visit  Kina supported development projects that are helping girls and women complete their education in a country where doing so is fraught with obstacles.

Kina's focus:

“Our primary focus is on providing educational scholarships to girls who are committed to excel but are unable to attend school.  With support and encouragement  we feel they will make positive contributions  within their communities through the gift of education.

"We strongly support the development of community leaders, particularly  girls and women.  These potential future leaders will serve as role models for others by demonstrating a commitment to community service in areas of education, healthcare and the environment.

"We also believe local communities are the best experts at determining their own priorities, needs and approaches to problem-solving.  We believe that relevant, durable and meaningful solutions begin at the grassroots level and move outwards.  We strive to be culturally-sensitive, collaborative and equitable in our efforts to support community development and encourage future leaders."

Trek through  the Solu Khumbu – Everest Region of the Himalayas, participate in a culturally rich experience and see firsthand Kina's impactful education development projects in rural Nepal.  Spend a day working at the Girls School Hostel project currently under construction by our Nepali partners. Visit Women’s Empowerment Projects that are currently underway in the region."

There are spaces for twelve people on the trek.  There are still spaces available.  Contact Kina for more information including costs, itinerary and what you will need to bring, or  download this pdf document:

The primary purpose of this trek will be to raise money for the completion of the Girls School Hostel in the regional center of Salleri, eastern Nepal.  The hostel will support girls in the Kina education program who are moving on to college level education and who require a safe place to live while attending school. All trekkers will be required to raise a $1,500 donation (tax deductible) that will be used directly to fund the construction of the hostel.

Kina will be running this trek with  local partners in Nepal and adventure travel experts in providing an unusual and unique experience that most visitors to Nepal never have.  After flying into Phaplu airport, the  two week trek will take you through the southern area of the Everest region (Solu)  (near the girls hostel project) and will end at Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu. An optional extended trek, continuing on from Lukla, will be available for those with more time and a desire to hike up to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes, near Mt Everest.
