Capoeira in the streets: Slideshow

People on Granville Street watched riveted as members of Vancouver's Axe Capoeira performed a demonstration of their acrobatic martial arts on Sunday. Developed in the 1500s by African slaves in Brazil, capoeira was originally disguised as a dance to avoid alarming slave owners. Vancouver's Axe Capoeira will be performing again downtown at the Afro-Brazilian Block Party on July 23.
