The Vancouver weather is finally starting to feel like spring, and that means it will soon be dress weather.  And this summer dresses seems to have a little something for everyone.  The lengths are maxi, midi, asymmetrical and knee.  The styles are lady like, bohemian, clean simplicity.  The colour trends are bright bold, pretty pastel, bold neutrals and patterns that mix all of the above.  Certainly something for every body and budget.

Bright bolds

This is probably my favourite trend in dresses right now.  A rich bold colour can really make a statement whether at the office, a wedding or brunch on a patio.

At Eco Fashion Week, Value Village shows that thrift is the new black

Many of us don't give much thought to what how our clothes affect the environment. Each year, over 90 million items of clothing end up in landfill sites around the world. That is a lot of clothing contributing to Global Warming.  Manufacturing new clothing, shoes and accessories requires a lot of resources to produce. Consider that it takes 2,700 litres of water to produce one cotton t-shirt.  So perhaps we could buy some of that used clothing destined for the landfill instead of buying new.

But there is a bit of a stigma about buying second hand or thrift clothes.   So this season Eco Fashion Week partnered with Value Village to help remove that stigma, and provide some eco-minded fashionistas with inspiration for shopping thrift.

Stylists were given a $500 budget at Value Village to buy clothes and style 10-15 items for a runway show.  Proving that thrift is also one of the cheapest way to "go green" stylishly.

Embracing colour: this spring, check out the hottest fashion trends in pants

As spring fashions hit the stores, a lot of bright colours will be on display, especially when it comes to pants. But how can women wear brightly coloured pants without looking too showy?

The truth is, almost anyone can wear a brightly-coloured pair of pants. You just need to pick the right style for your shape, life and personality. The key rule is to always remember that the eye will be drawn to the bright pants first, so be sure to balance the rest of your outfit accordingly.

Red is the particular colour that catches my eye this spring, and a pair of red pants will be added to my closet very soon. I like to ensure that most everything in my wardrobe can work at least a couple of different ways. So here are some weekend and weekday ideas on how to wear red pants in a skinny jean, ankle pant or wide leg option. All the pants shown are available in local Vancouver stores.

Fashion and technology merge in the clothes of the future

Forever 21's holographic fashion show

Fashion is all about what's new and what's now. So while technology keeps growing exponentially a few innovative designers have tried to keep up. In recent seasons the fashion industry has worked closely with technology experts to come up with design programs that expand the horizon of print design. And that bar keeps rising.

Obviously, the internet is playing a central role, allowing everyone to be a fashion critic. Thanks to YouTube, a few lucky fashion bloggers have become worldwide celebrities. Tommy Ton, Susie Bubble, and teenager Tavi Gevinson are a few of the lucky ones who found ways to express and share their interest in fashion successfully.
