Cyclist hit at 12th Avenue succumbs to injuries

A  crash at the intersection of East 12^th Avenue and Windsor Street has left one cyclist dead. 

The 32-year-old female bicyclist was travelling northbound on Windsor on the morning of March 27 before entering East 12^th Avenue where she was struck by an eastbound car.

Emergency services and police responded to a call of a collision around  7:30 a.m that morning. The cyclist was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries late Saturday night.

Though the intersection has a pedestrian/cyclist-controlled crossing light to control east/west traffic on East 12^th Avenue, it's currently unknown what stage the light was on.

The driver of the car was uninjured. Alcohol and speed are not considered a factor in the collision. 

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision to contact the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit at (604) 717-3012.

This is Vancouver’s fourth traffic-related fatality of 2012, compared year-to-date to five in 2011, three in 2010 and six in 2009, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) press release.
