Update: Tesovic named top student entrepreneur in the world

Milun Tesovic, the 24-year-old founder of Metrolyrics, which I wrote about recently, has been named the top student entrepreneur in the world, beating out 31 other students from 18 countries in the annual Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) in Kansas City on November 19. Tesovic also received the GSEA Innovation Award for his creativity and unique approach to business.

Tesovic, as I noted, is founder and chief executive of Metroleap Media, which operates metrolyrics.com, one of the most popular music websites in the world. He started the business when he was 16 years old because of his passion for music lyrics and so that he could afford to buy a car. Today metrolyrics.com is the one of the most trafficked lyrics site worldwide, reaching more than 35 million unique monthly visitors.

He and his family came to Canada in 1992, escaping the ethnic conflicts in Yugoslavia. Despite his success, he remains close to his family and friends. According to Alan Juristovski, who is both a family friend and CEO of Metroleap, the company was founded on cultural family values brought from their Yugoslavian homeland. They offer full medical coverage and staff training programs. “We take care of each other and focus on creating a fun working environment, rather than trying to squeeze every dollar we can out of the business,” says Juristovski.

The GSEA award is just the latest in a series of accolades for Tesovic. He has also been named Canadian Student Entrepreneur National Champion, SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year, and was recently listed as one of Billboard Magazine’s “Top 30 Under 30”. Metroleap has also received a Red Herring Top 50 award this year as one of Canada’s most innovative and promising companies.

Congratulations, Milun!
