Daring models inspire photographer Rick Legal
Photographer Rick Legal has almost exclusively photographed nudes in recent months.The shy photographer somehow has no problem finding bold models comfortable with being seen with no clothes on.
Legal has a unique point of view which sets his nude photographs apart from those of many other photographers. His approach to subjects is direct. His photographs are stark, but intimate. They are not necessarily pretty, but almost always erotic.
Legal's models are not just passive pretty faces or bodies exploited by male perspectives on what a woman's body should look like. They seem to be not only comfortable in their nudity, but also confident with their own bodies. They appear to enjoy being seen and photographed.
To me, dynamics between a photographer and a subject is the most interesting aspect of photographing people. The models in Legal's photos appear to be as much in charge in making the photographs as the photographer himself.
It's fascinating that a shy person like him – I keep hearing this about his shyness – photographs this kind of subject. He told me that he often regrets after the shoot that he did not ask enough of them, for the fear they might reject his requests.
I believe it is his talent that brings something special out of these women. It is his personality that makes these women daring. His directness creates trust in them, believing his photographs to be art.
I took these photographs several weeks ago of Rick Legal and his models. His models are wonderful to work with and are quick to understand what I want. They are open to experiment. They even made suggestions how to pose themselves.
Every artist needs his or her muse. Rick definitely has found his own muses.

Boring predictable photography. There's no innovation or stylistic challenging. Heavy reliance on cheep props, compensates for lack of artistic direction. Back alley photography!
The stunning, lyrical photographs by Yukiko Onley that illustrate her article about Rick Onley cast nude photography in a warm, human light, compared to the usual cliché of sculptural lights and shadows we are so used to. Seeing male and females together leads one to imagine a story, as yet unwritten, that we can look forward to.
I have been to the exhibit, have looked at Rick Legal's tumblr and flickr pages and find his photography to be stunning! What I personally enjoy about a good photograph is that there is more to it than what I notice at first glance. Each one of the photos inthe exhibit is unique in the aspects of the subject that are emphasized (light, line, texture, perspective, etc.). There's far more to his work than the superficial observation that there's only breasts. I believe that his images capture a second of humanity ineach model that is not erotic, but imperfect, slightly awkward and therfore captivating. There's nothing generic or unoriginal about his work. I challenege anyone who is going to post anything here to actually go to the exhibit yourself and speak from a stance of experience rather that generality.
