The Vancouver Observer nominated for 2012 Canadian Online Publishing Award
The Vancouver Observer is among eight finalists for a Canadian Online Publishing Award (COPA) for its story on the impact of BC's proposed group home closures on adults with developmental disabilities.
"It's an honour to be nominated: The Vancouver Observer has always dedicated time and resources toward telling the stories of people who suffer injustices yet lack the means to spread the word about their experiences," said Jenny Uechi, managing editor and COPA finalist.
"Especially because this story touched upon what I feel to be a very vulnerable and marginalized group in BC, I am glad that our coverage is being recognized in some capacity."
Finalists in the category of Best online article or series of articles include CBC News, iPolitics, La Presse, The Grid, The Huffington Post Canada and The Tyee.
The Vancouver Observer is the winner of the 2012 Canadian Journalism Foundation Excellence Award.
